THE GOOD:
The Bathtub Scene: Tom had a very memorable bathtub scene with Amy in this episode. What started out as a warm, candle lit, generously bubbly bubble bath with Amy turned into a cold soak with them as far apart as two people could be in a tub. The scene began with a casual conversation about movies as Amy passed a soapy sponge over Rob's chest. The two of them were in close enough proximity to engage in a lot of innocent, sudsy play as they talked. As the conversation turned to Amy's employment of Rob's niece, Katie, as her daughter's baby sitter, I could feel the atmosphere become just a little too tense for a bubble bath.
Tom's Performance: Tom portrayed a wonderful, caring uncle whom Katie could call when she's upset. She had told him that Amy yelled at her. Amy denied yelling at Katie. Although Amy was completely right, she did unnecessarily yell at the teenager earlier in the episode. Rob came across as very understanding about the situation, and he was responsible and discreet in not discussing his private life with a teenager.
Tom is very sexy sporting suds. I wish could mute the sound and just watch him soak for hours, as the bubbles dissipate. Tom seemed very relaxed as he delivered his lines and nonchalantly wrapped Amy's soapy hands in his. As Amy became more stressed and needlessly defensive about Katie, Tom reacted well. You could tell that it was his character that was trying to maintain the pleasant mood. He didn't overreact, especially when she became a little agitated that Katie may have been inappropriately disclosing everything that goes on in Amy's house, or that Katie knew about their relationship. Rob reassured Amy on both counts.
Tom and Amy Brenneman worked very well off of each other. As Amy fretted about Rob's young niece, Rob pronounced the conversation "officially creepy," and reminded her that wasn't what he had in mind when he filled up the tub. He was so cute. So, taking a bubble bath together was his idea? How thoughtful. Amy really knows how to ruin a romantic moment with a gorgeous man in a stretch bathtub.
THE BAD:
There was nothing bad about the episode, and certainly not about Tom's performance.
Rating: I give Tom's performance five out of five stars.
