Noir was full of mystery, intrigue, murder, love, friendship, and fun! It was an amazing episode! Noir had more substance than expected and set up the last two episodes of the season with anticipation.

The Good

Clark: Tom Welling was amazing in this episode. No surprise there! Even though he didn't have a lot of scenes, the ones he was in, he dominated. His bumbling, clumsy Clark was classic Clark Kent. I was never really sure that Tom could pull that off and be convincing because of how handsome he is, but he was fabulous! Tom does mysterious extremely well! He played the classically tarnished, tragic hero that was quite often in the old black and white movies as if he were born in the era. Present day Clark was very heroic and Superman-ish.

Jimmy: For the first time, I am enraptured with Jimmy Olsen. He has turned out to be quite the hero! His ingenuity for his date with Chloe was magnificent. Who knew that Jimmy was a fan of old detective movies! He is so romantic and caring, which is exactly what Chloe needs. He is also very quick to protect Chloe even if he has to fistfight with a hired assassin. A much more mature Jimmy was evident in this episode. Jimmy suspicions seem to be closer to the truth even though Clark and Chloe chose to ignore his input in the beginning.

Jimmy's Dream: The writer's set the dream up really well. It wasn't so far of a stretch to believe he could have that kind of dream. The dream showed some of how he feels about different people in his dream, from Lana being the femme fatale to Clark having a secret identity. It was very evident in his dream how much he wants Chloe to look up to him and not Clark. It also appears that Jimmy doesn't trust Clark very much either. Jimmy also understood how a man could get lost in Lana's eyes. I think he just might sympathize with Clark on that score going forward.

Jimmy and Chloe: These two were absolutely adorable together. The scene at the end was so romantic and a great way to end a fabulous episode. Allison and Aaron have a great chemistry on screen. Jimmy got to show Chloe how smart he really is and not some bumbling reporter.

Chloe and Lana: Chloe and Lana skirting around Clark's secret has become almost comedic. They aren't as close as they once were due to Chloe keeping Clark's secret. Since we don't really know for sure what Lana thinks Clark is yet (I suspect she knows he's an alien), it is putting a real strain on Chloe to know what to say when Lana confronts her with Clark's weakness in this scene. Chloe's advice to Lana was sound. Lana needs to tell Clark that Lionel forced her to marry Lex and why! However, Lana did leave enough clues for Chloe to figure it out.

Chloe and Clark: Tom Welling and Allison Mack are so amazing in portraying the loving and caring friendship between Clark and Chloe. The banter between them when Clark caught her was indicative of their ease with each other and a nice comedic touch to a really tense situation.

In the scene where Clark is upset that he can't find out anything about who ordered a hit on Lana, Chloe is very good at dropping the right hints without actually telling Clark what she knows. The fact that she acknowledged how tightly Clark was holding her was a nice touch in the scene. He is Superman after all…well, almost.

Lois and Lionel: These two characters haven't been seen on screen together since Crusade. Eric Durance and John Glover were perfect in their confrontational scene. Lionel was his usually self and Lois stood up to him. Lionel's parting shot to Lois was chilling and she knew she has hit upon a dangerous story. This, of course sets us up for next week.

Music, Photography, and Script: The lighting in the black and white part of the episode was so realistic of an old classic movie that it was hard to imagine it was filmed this year. The car chases and the editing of the piece gave the feeling of authenticity. The music throughout the episode kept you on the edge of your seat as well as moved your emotions to what you should be feeling in the scene. The script was well written, especially the dialog for the black and white piece. It stayed within the parameters of the time period it was portraying without sounding ridiculous.

The Bad

When is Lana going to admit to Chloe what she knows about Clark and quit playing games?

Clark blaming himself for not protecting Lana.

I give Noir 5 out of 5 stars.
