Kara, the second episode for season 7 was better than I thought it was going to be. It contained a lot of the mythos and progressed Clark's story line a step forward.
The Good
Clark Kent: Tom Welling, again continues to amaze me with his acting. I really enjoyed his whole persona in this episode. It carried over from the premiere. Clark is standing up for himself. He has stopped apologizing for who he is and what he feels. Finally, he is showing traits of a leader.
Clark and Lois: The chemistry between these two is amazing and seems to grow as time passes. Clark acts like a man with Lois and not an unsure, bumbling boy. The conversation between them in this episode showed how much they really care for each other without letting the other one know it. I loved the look on Lois' face when she realized Clark wasn't kidding about leaving Smallville. She was definitely upset.
Clark and Kara: Tom Welling and Laura Vandervoort have an interesting chemistry between them. It was good to see Clark in a mentor role. Tom's coaching was evident in Laura's performance. She did well in portraying Kara and her emotions. Imagine finding out everything you know as home has been destroyed. It would be hard to grasp. I love the information she shared with Clark about him being a baby and how much his mother loved him. I am looking forward to more of this. Clark is yearning to know more about his home and I like that Kara is sharing it with him. Yes, Jor-El could share it, but he is a cold, heartless intelligence that insists emotions are not necessary where Kara is a warm, caring woman with fond memories of Kal-El and his family. I would rather he hear it from her.
I really enjoyed Clark helping Kara learn how to use her super-hearing. It only seems fair since she can fly and he can't yet. The smile of pride on Clark's face when she was able to fine tune her hearing was adorable.
Chloe, Lois, and Grant: This was an interesting triangle. I wasn't sure what to expect from Grant, but I really like him. He is definitely a young Perry White and knows how to stoke fires. Chloe was despondent during this episode. She has so much to deal with and it is beginning to show in her character. She is withdrawing into herself and not letting anyone in. I like that Lois was in Chloe's corner, but maybe this is just what Chloe needs. I am very interested to see how this all plays out.
Clark and Jor-El: It was great to see the Fortress of Solitude again. It still seems to be at minimum power though. I am glad that Clark was accepting his training , but wasn't going to apologize for who he is. He stood up to Jor-El in a very Superman-ly way. I am interested to see what the dysfunction was in the House of El and why Kara was sent to earth by Zor-El.
The Bad
Lex and Lana: The cat and mouse game with these two wasn't necessary. The scenes seemed contrived just to prove that Lana is alive and for Lex to 'release' her so she can be with Clark.
Lex knowing that Lana is alive: This did not make sense. There wasn't any reason given for Lex to know that…unless he knew because the clone was missing. This whole part of the episode just seemed weird to me.
I give 'Kara' 3.75 out of 5 stars.
