Cure was dark and sinister. It was good to see two actors who played Clark Kent together for the first time. This episode left things open for Dean Cain to return as the Immortally Evil Curtis Knox. It also gave us insight into Chloe's dilemma as well as what Lana has been up to.

The Good

Clark Kent: This episode showed a range of emotions for Clark. First, the happy home setting, to being worried about Chloe, having to referee between Kara and Martian Manhunter, and then being told the "love of your life" has stolen $10 million dollars from Lex. Tom, as always was brilliant in every scene he was in. The scene where he confronted Lana about taking the money was priceless. Even though Clark hugged Lana, you could see the confusion and doubt on his face. He wonders if she is telling the truth. So the trouble in paradise begins. This was quite a contrast from the first 'happy home' scene at the beginning of the episode.

Clark Kent and Curtis Knox: This story line was very well done. The parallels between Clark Kent and Curtis Knox were interesting. Both are immortal and both will outlive everyone they love. The only difference was how each one would deal with the future. This was an ingenious way to incorporate the former Clark Kent into a storyline for Smallville. I was surprised at Dean Cain's performance. He was positively evil as Curtis Knox. I wasn't sure the former Clark Kent/Superman would be able to pull off an evil character convincingly.

The scene when Knox breaks down over the loss of his love and looks Clark in the face with tears running down his cheeks was heartbreaking. Clark sees for the second time in his life that he will lose all the people he loves and be alone. This was a nice continuity for Hourglass in the first season. Martian Manhunter mentions this fact to Clark again. Two episodes in a row this is being hammered into Clark's head. Is this going to cripple Clark from having any type of relationship with a woman? It will be interesting to see where they take this in regards to Clark's feelings.

Clark and Chloe: The chemistry between these two is fantastic. Their friendship is going through stress, but yet it is still very evident how much they care about each other. Clark would never reveal Chloe's secret to anyone, not even Lana. He would stand by her no matter what. You can see how much he is worried about her. When Clark realizes Chloe will forget him if she has the procedure, you can sense his distress. He really depends on Chloe more than anyone else. She is the only human that understands him so well. He certainly doesn't want to lose that. He doesn't have that type of relationship with Lana.

This was a nice parallel between Clark and Chloe. Clark is afraid of living forever and watching all his loved ones die and Chloe is afraid of dying and not being able to see her loved ones again. What a dilemma these two close friends must face. I'm hoping that Chloe learns to control her powers soon or she is going to do exactly what she is afraid of...go crazy! She needs to let Clark help her like she has helped Clark.

Chloe and Jimmy: The angst in their scenes was bittersweet. Aaron Ashmore did an amazing job in these scenes. He's so sweet to Chloe. The scenes were very Lana and Clark from past seasons when dealing with Chloe's secret. Allison Mack was amazing and my heart went out to Chloe. She is afraid of being rejected by Jimmy, especially since Jimmy has made comments concerning meteor freaks.

Curtis Knox and Chloe: Chloe was at her best trying to talk this evil, cold killer out of taking her life. The 'Jack the Ripper wanna be' line was a nice touch, until Knox came back with the line that he was Jack the Ripper. The look on Chloe's face was unadulterated fear. We got a little bit more of an insight into Chloe's meteor power. There are high concentrations of meteor rocks located in her heart. Her heart is super powered. Mmmm.

Kara and Jimmy: This pairing is cute and innocent. I loved the chopsticks scene and thought Aaron and Laura did an amazing job. Kara makes Jimmy feel needed and special with her comments on him being such a great photographer. Kara's insistence to not tell Chloe because she will tell Clark, let's the audience know that Kara is aware of how close Clark and Chloe are.

The Bad

Lex: It was comedic relief in the episode when Lex uttered the words to Curtis Knox, "I'm not going to let you hurt anyone else." Isn't that Clark's line? I'm hoping Lex is just yanking our chains, because he just isn't believable as having a conscious. Maybe it is like Lana said to Clark, he has an ulterior motive. Time will tell.

Lex and Clark: This scene was not believable to me. I don't think Clark would have waited around for Lex to wake up...AND then say he killed someone to save Lex? Okay, I was confused. Wouldn't that have been giving too much away of Clark's powers? It was almost like Lex was Clark and Clark was Lex. Both actors did an amazing job with the scene as they always do, but it was so out of place in the scheme of things. What were the writers thinking?

Sasha Woodman: She didn't seem as intense as the previous actress. Did the brain surgery affect her personality that much? However, it was a nice touch to bring back a previous meteor freak.

Kara: Maybe we will understand soon why this is, but Kara is one angry girl. I'm not sure I like how she treats Clark or her reactions to MM. I'm hoping we will get to see her open up soon. This tactic is getting a little old.

*There weren't enough scenes of Clark and Curtis together, but maybe that will come in the future. It is possible that this was just a teaser for Dean Cain to return.

I give 'Cure' 3.75 out of 5 stars.
