Wrath was surprisingly an episode filled with continuity and took us a step closer to the Superman we know and love. It was paced well and built steadily to an amazing final scene. By the time it was over, I was cheering and ready for the next episode! We are now definitely moving in the right direction.

The Good

Clark Kent: Tom Welling was amazing! His amazing acting skills were very evident in this episode. The expressions on his face gave us insight into what Clark was feeling at any given moment. Quite frankly, most of us wouldn't have minded being in Lana's place...being able to x-ray Clark, shove him up against a wall and make the earth move! Whew!

Clark was at his best in his ability to always believe the best in people. The fact that Clark has never crossed that moral line (that I can recall) in the history of Smallville says so much for the person that he is. His motives have always been with the intention of saving lives even if it means someone as evil as Lex is left to take the very lives he is trying to save. I loved the fact that Clark has been aware that Lana has been different since she came back. He isn't as blinded as we thought! He just didn't want to admit it. He wants to hold on to something that really isn't there. Fortunately, his eyes are now open! Yahoo!!! His concerns about what he had already seen from Lana allowed him to listen to the rest of the people in his world as they gave him pieces to the puzzle of who Lana really is.

Continuity: Wow, this episode was riddled with it. The opening scene with the horses, Eric Sommers from Season 1 was remembered along with what happened to Jonathan when he received Clark's powers in Season 3. Martha talking on the phone with Lionel was a nice touch as well. The space ship, the metallic dust from the power supply, and Lana talking about Clark missing the opportunity to kill Lex was also a good tie to the past. I am sure there are others, but those are the ones that stood out to me.

Clark and Lex: I absolutely adore scenes between these two men! The chemistry between them is explosive. The interaction between them, even though focused around Lana, was good. Lex is bitter and he doesn't mind letting Clark know that. We also saw the 'truth' as Lex sees it. He really believes what he is doing for the best for all mankind. Michael was so believable in his scene with Lana when he was raving about it. Amazing acting!

Clark is always about protecting people. This was very evident in his scenes with Lex. There wasn't a jealousy over Lana, but more like a 'you've hurt her enough and I am going to protect her' vibe. There was some blame laid about who was responsible for this change in behavior for Lana, but thankfully, Lana owned up to her own actions by the end of the episode.

Clark and Chloe: The relationship that Clark and Chloe have really shone in this episode. Chloe is loyal to Clark, but not afraid to confront him when he starts to blame Lana's behavior on the powers. I'm glad that Clark opened up to Chloe and shared with her his concerns. He has seen that Lana is darker.

Clark and Lionel: Clark was uncomfortable coming to Lionel about Lana and Tom played it very well. Lionel's revelation about Lana's involvement with his kidnapping was met with Clark's determination that Lana wasn't capable of such behavior. The comparison to Samson and Delilah made Clark think. I don't think it was an accurate comparison as Delilah was set up to deceive Samson from the beginning and I don't think that is true with Lana. However, that may be Lionel's view.

Clark and Lana: The interaction and dialog between this two was better in this episode than in the past. Finally, some home truths! Lana is aware that Clark sees her differently than she really is and challenged Clark on it. Again, it is good that she is aware she is responsible for her own actions.

Lana is a bitter woman. I believe it has more to do with what Lex did to her concerning the baby than actually protecting Clark. She isn't evil, just out for revenge and she is blinded by it.

Chloe and Lana: Finally, Chloe calls Lana on her treatment of Clark! I loved this scene. It gave me chills. Chloe has thrown down the gauntlet and Lana just better watch her step. It was a nice touch that Chloe disabled the equipment and not Lex. It showed how serious Chloe is about protecting Clark and keeping him from being tainted by Lana's obsession. It is good to see Chloe be herself and not so worried about her condition.

Lois Lane: Lois was actually believable as the iconic Lois Lane in this episode. She seemed confident and 'on the story'. She was captivating. Loved the new hairstyle.

Special Effects: From the lightning to the fight scene, the effects were flawless.

The Bad

Opening Scene: This was beautifully shot, but I thought this was a waste of screen time. It didn't have to go on so long to get the point across. Reminds me of the basketball scene in Raya. Whoops, maybe that was intended as continuity...

The earth moving: Okay, I wasn't too happy about this. I think it was a little too much. I felt like I was "pounded" over the head with the fact Clark and Lana did "it".

Clark taking responsibility for Lana's behavior: They seriously need to do something about Clark always feeling responsible for things he has no control over. He should be better at realizing when he is responsible for something by now. The writers have stunted his growth in this aspect. Sometimes I just want to shake Clark...he is such an easy target to lay blame on simply because he has these amazing powers.

Lana ripping open the safe: I don't understand why Lex and his minion didn't come running from all of the noise Lana created ripping open the safe. Seemed very unrealistic to me.

Lana's chastisement of Clark: I didn't like that it was Lana that challenged Clark about staying on the farm. Maybe it is intended to wake him up, but I think that should come from someone else besides Lana. Lois maybe?

I give 'Wrath' 4 out of 5 stars.
