Plastique showcased our 'Superman in Waiting'. A fantastic episode with classic moments! I was expecting Clark at any moment to change into the suit!
The Good
Clark Kent, Intrepid Reporter: Tom Welling was amazing as Clark Kent. There was a maturity in the character that unfortunately hasn't been seen until this season. His confidence and sense of direction is refreshing to see and Tom plays it well. Clark was both manly and Supermanly in this episode.
Clark and Lois: There was an underlying friendship displayed in the banter between these two. It was a joy to watch these two together. Lois really thinks she has taken Clark under her wing. Clark seems to take it all with humor. I loved the fact that Clark disappeared on her twice. Very comedic moments! Clark is definitely the center of this episode even though he is not the focus of every scene. Everything comes back to him.
Clark and Tess: This is an interesting chemistry. A cat and mouse game. There is a little sexual tension, but more tension of the dangerous kind. Tess is literally scary. Scarier than Lex. It is really difficult to determine exactly what she is up to. Of course, Clark is leery of anyone who has connections with Lex, but I hope he doesn't underestimate her. It will be interesting to see what transpires between them. I was surprised that Tess wasn't showing any signs of being hurt back at the planet. Meteor power, perhaps?
Shallow moment: I melted at how easy Clark carried Tess along with the smile he gave her.
Clark and Bette: The gentle and caring way Clark deals with Bette is amazing. This is definitely Superman without the suit! The young actress playing this role was very good. I wouldn't mind seeing her back.
Clark and Chloe: Awww, this was an amazing moment when Clark and Chloe talked about her engagement. Clark knows that things will have to change between them. He doesn't want that anymore than Chloe does, but he comforts her instead.
Clark and Davis: I really enjoyed the interchange between Davis and Clark. Clark's face was priceless during the whole fiancé congratulations from Davis. This was well done. I really like Davis as a man. He has a definite chemistry with Chloe. It will be interesting to see where this goes. The last scene with Davis was well done.
Special effects: The special effects were amazing and seemed real. Clark folding back the top of the bus, running to catch Chloe, and Bette's power.
Music: The music during every scene set that scene.
Cinematography: The actual shooting of this episode was well done. The lighting seemed a little darker than what is normal for Smallville in some scenes, such as the bus site and the Isis Foundation. The brighter scenes were the Daily Planet and Chloe's apartment. A definite differentiation between the locations and the content of the scene. This episode was very pleasing to watch. Nice cover of the fog to hide Clark using his powers.
The Bad
Bad?: I wasn't able to find 'bad' in this episode.
I give 'Plastique 5 out of 5 stars.
