Committed was a break out episode for Smallville. It truly was the story of Superman. It flowed well from scene to scene and closes up any dangling plots in the end... well except for one. To our utter delight, Lois proposes to Clark and we find out with a resounding 'no' to the question, is Chloe in love with Clark. We also find out that Oliver has been on a drinking binge since Toxic. The dialogue was sharp and well written.

I was delighted Clark was the one to save himself and Lois from the crazed jeweler. Again, I felt like he was Superman, just without the costume. Clark is intelligent, actually super intelligent and the writers are finally allowing him to use it. He solves the puzzle, makes a grand entrance, and saves the day!

The Good

Clark Kent as Reporter and Superman: It was great to see Clark in saving mode. He was impatient at being held back by Lois in his own investigation. Tom Welling was absolutely brilliant in this episode. His face was so expressive; you knew what he was thinking at any moment. Clark appears to finally be comfortable in his own skin. I really like a confident Clark. My favorite moment was when Clark tensed up expecting to be zapped after Lois' confession of 'yes' to the question, "Do you love him?" and then the shock on his face when he realized it didn't happen and what really did happen was amazing. Tom really does play this character well.

Clark and Lois: These two totally delighted me in this episode. Lois did not have the upper hand on Clark and it was refreshing to see. She tried to be with her 'Shirley Temple for the lady' comment at Chloe and Jimmy's engagement party, but Clark didn't even smirk at her. His smile was genuine humor. Erica Durance plays drunk well!

The scene at the farm was shot really well. First you see Lois' shoes, then her hair over the arm of the chair before you ever see Lois. Then she sits up and she's in none other than Clark's football jersey. One of my favorite lines from the episode comes from this scene. Lois says, "I take it I took a little drive down the porcelain highway" and Clark's response of "It was more like a cross country trip," was hilarious. Got a snort out of me. Clark definitely holds his own with Lois in this episode.

Lois:: Erica Durance held her own as well in this episode. She was truly amazing and the chemistry between her and Tom Welling is sassy and sexy. Even when Clark doesn't want to accommodate Lois, she pulls him along for the ride. There is a closeness between them that can't be denied even if they do. Honorable mention: Lois' kidnapping scene was classic Sheriff Adams. Same deadpan face, same type of exclamation

Clark and Chloe: Clark's little speech to Chloe and Jimmy was heartwarming. I love the relationship that Clark and Chloe have. They are truly BFFs. Clark saved the day from Lois' little faux paux.

Lois and Chloe: This scene was so well done between these two women who are more sisters than cousins. Chloe is so forgiving and mature. Lois is sincere in her apology and being honest with how she felt. Not enough girl time between these two.

Chloe and Jimmy: I saw a Jimmy Olson that was sincere and caring. The goofiness was gone. Aaron Ashmore played his part so well that he gave a sense he was hiding something from the very beginning of the episode. Hallelujah, they (the writers) let us know what that secret was within the episode. And Chloe was such a sweetheart the entire episode.

Clark's dimple: I don't think I have seen Tom's cute dimple at the side of his mouth appear as much as it did in this episode. It was so adorable!

Clark's Arms: This one had to have its own point. Geez, the arms on this man. It was fun to see him flex those muscles in that electric chair as he pulled on the chains. Had me wanting to give those arms a squeeze to see just how hard those muscles are!

Pink furry handcuffs: This was the funniest prop yet! I loved Clark's expression when he turned away from Lois after she showed them to him. And of course, later between Jimmy and Chloe was cute.

The Psychotic Jeweler: Okay, for a villain, I have to say I really liked this guy. He also had some of the best lines in the episode. "Lies don't hurt you, lies hurt the ones you love," and "Heart and mouth are not always on the same page," were thought provoking lines. This guy was so matter of fact with what he was doing. He really believed he was saving both of the individuals heartache in his own sick way.

Scene in the Jewelry Store: This scene was very well done. All the name calling was cute. Let's see, there was Pumpkin, Muffin, Poodle and Cupcake. Makes me a little hungry, well except for the Poodle one! Lois also confesses that Clark has 'performance anxiety'. Clark didn't take that one too well! Then the icing on the cake is when Oliver walks in the store. They couldn't blow their cover. Erica and Tom were so funny in this scene and so was Justin! Very funny! Favorite line in this scene was, Lois saying, "Smiling every now and then won't kill you." Clark's response, "There's a short supply, Lois, I wouldn't want to waste one."

Scene in the Elevator: What a great Lois Lane/Clark Kent moment! They are both lying to each other from the get go. Clark is testing the waters with Lois and even gives her an out, which she jumps on with both feet. Then her little lie about slipping off the sensor and Clark's reaction to it had me in stitches. Ah ha! He has feelings, too. Lois' remark about Clark being a terrible liar and not knowing what would have happened if he had to answer the same question had Clark floored.

Music: The music throughout this episode was so great for each scene. There were even a few bars of the Superman theme threaded into the elevator scene. It went for lighthearted to creepy to totally inspiring.

Mixed Feeling

Oliver and Tess: The writers did tie up the reason Oliver was in the jewelry store with their scenes. The rest of it seemed a little superfluous to me unless they are building up to something. Tess really intrigues me. She has an agenda and I'm not totally convinced we know half of what it is. I have mixed feelings about these scenes because I think maybe this is leading up to something major.

Clark being powerless when Jeweler is across room: The kryptonite bracelet that the villain was wearing sure did have a long range to keep Clark powerless from across the room. I wonder if his playing with electricity was the reason for it.

The Bad

Gabe Sullivan: There is talk about Jimmy's parents, but not hint of where Chloe's father is. Goodness, his daughter is getting married. Tell us why he isn't involved at this point!
