Abyss was better than I thought it would be. It was Chloe eccentric, but furthered the story of Brainiac's infection of her. Clark made a hard decision in this episode that also set up the emergence of Doomsday. Very well done with a lot of continuity.

The Good

Clark Kent : Tom Welling has again pulled off a stellar episode. Clark was compassionate and loving in this episode. His willingness to put his own needs last is Superman at his best. He also included Jimmy in the search for Chloe and didn't brush him off.

Clark and Jimmy: I love the chemistry that is developing between these two. There is a true friendship brewing under the surface, an iconic one. I loved how compassionate and gentle Clark was with Jimmy even when he lost Chloe!

Clark and Chloe: It was clear their friendship was deep when Clark is actually the last person she forgets. Davis was there in her memories because of Brainiac, so he doesn't count. Clark is actually ripped from her memories while she tries to hang on. Allison Mack was so convincing at losing her memories as one by one they went. Not to mention the amazing scene at the Fortress. Even though Chloe was unconscious, the chemistry between these two actors was amazing. Clark's decision to not restore her memories of his secret was bittersweet. I don't think Clark realized how much he had lost until Chloe made her first comment about him driving to Metropolis.

Special effects: The effects in this episode were absolutely stunning! From the loss of Chloe's memories to the resurrection of the fortress, to Brainiac taking over the Fortress were so well done!

Clark and Davis: I am glad that Clark is suspicious of Davis being the only memory left for Chloe. He should be concerned. It felt like a little tiny showdown between the two when Davis brought Chloe to the Talon. I can't wait to see more of a confrontation between these two in future episodes.

Clark, Jor-El and the Fortress: It was great having the Fortress back. I was glad that the AI was a little nicer to Clark. Clark was confident and mature in his speech to Joe-El. Jor-El's responses were finally something other than threats!!

Continuity: It was nice to finally see the scene of Chloe, Clark, and their first kiss mentioned in the later part of Season 1. The flashbacks going to this particular scene were well done... all kisses or almost kisses they have shared.

The Bad

Chloe keeping her memory loss from Clark: This seemed out of character for Chloe to me. She should have told Clark unless it was a Brainiac's influence that caused her not to.

Jor-El: I was hoping that we would get a better explanation about the AI other than he didn't trust Clark. But I was happy to see him toned down quite a bit and more congenial toward Clark.

I give 'Abyss 4.8 out of 5 stars.
