Bulletproof showed our future Superman realizing the importance of both a family and saving the world; of having balance in his life. He also discovered how important teamwork and loyalty are when the right people come together for a common cause and how that same loyalty can be misused.
The Good
Clark Kent: Tom Welling was amazing in this episode as Joe Fordman/Clark Kent. He was strong and manly. He was Superman. Not to mention seeing Tom in uniform. Yowza! Clark was smart and thinking on his feet. No puppy dog eyes moments. He had something to say whenever he was challenged and what he had to say was important. I would have enjoyed more scenes with Clark and the police officers.
Clark and Dan Turpin: Clark saw the good in Danny and took him under his wing. He knew Danny was being manipulated and worked to get him back on the right track. I loved the chemistry between these two actors. It was great to see Clark in a good male relationship even though he was working to save him. The respect Clark showed to Danny was endearing. When Danny declares he is one of the good guys, the smile that spreads across Clark's face is Superman at his finest.
Clark and Oliver: Clark was willing to talk things through with Oliver, but Oliver was all gung-ho. I liked the contrast between these two men displayed in this episode. Clark is definitely a leader and it showed in how he kept his head through the entire investigation.
Martian Manhunter: I love this character's mentoring of Clark... and it seems the Justice League as well. The scene in the hospital room with Clark, Oliver, and Martian Manhunter was so well done. Hopefully Oliver will be more of a team player next time. Clark does have reasons for not including him in everything... Clark is invincible, Oliver is not. Oliver, however, doesn't have an excuse.
Nice touch on the Martian hanging from his rearview mirror in the opening scene. The introduction of Emil Hamilton was well done.
Clark and Chloe: The conversation about the Lana triangles was well done. Clark didn't deny he had feelings for Lois and he didn't sound so sure of his feelings for Lana.
Clark and Lana: The lack of angst between these two was refreshing in this episode. And of course, the kiss at the end was tender and hot! I wished it hadn't gone that way, but since it did... can't deny loving to see Tom kiss a girl... any girl!!
Bryan Q. Miller: As a writer so far this season, Bryan is batting a thousand in my book. He so far has written Clark as a character we can be proud to call Superman. In his scripts, Clark has character and dignity. Good job, Bryan!!
The Bad
Lana: There wasn't any reason to have her back. Other than her reveal for Tess and an amazingly choreographed fight scene... of course, someone else could have taken care of that.
Clark and Oliver at hospital: I didn't care for the little bout of guilt Clark went through while talking to Oliver. Also, Oliver's sanctimonious attitude toward him because of it wasn't very respectful to Clark at all. I thought it was a little over done and over the line.
Tess and Lana: I'm not sure what this might have to do with Clark's journey, but I found it a little ho-hum.
I give Bulletproof 4 out of 5 stars.
