Stiletto really showcased Clark's heroism even though this episode was Lois-centric. It was far more serious than I expected with a few really cute and funny moments. There were quite a few nods to various Superman mythologies and it showed growth in all the characters for the arc they are currently in moving them toward the finale. The performance from all the actors was top notch.
The Good
Clark Kent aka Superman: Tom Welling is beyond adorable and in this episode he made you want to pinch his cheeks he's so darn cute. Clark Kent was at his heroic best in Stiletto. He was compassionate, caring, smart, and teasing as well. He was always in control of the situation and it was great to see. Not at any time was he put down. I'm not sure who wrote this, but they did an excellent job with writing Clark. I absolutely loved his scene where Lois brings him coffee after he is shot and he leans over and moans. Tom is having a hard time not to smirk because we all know he isn't feeling the pain!
Clark and Lois: Their interaction showed how far these two characters have come. I loved Clark's moan of pain as he teased Lois about getting shot. Even when they were fighting he came out at the good end of the argument. I especially loved it when Lois admitted Clark was a better reporter than expected. It's about time he got kudos for that. It was a nice touch at the end of the scene when Clark discovers Lois is Stiletto when they discussed who released the villain from jail. It was an intelligent conversation between them, then Clark sent her to take care of her 'story' and she went to take care of like he said. She didn't take off half-cocked to rescue the villain.
Stiletto: I liked the fact that Lois' whole purpose during the whole super hero fiasco was to get to talk to the Red-Blue-Blur even if she did get in over her head. Erica Durance did a wonderful job. I really enjoyed her issue with having to jump through the skylight to save Clark. The whole time she was afraid, but she couldn't let the guy continue to beat up on Clark.
Clark saving the day: I loved that instead of Lois saving him, he was the one who really saved her. A rush of adrenaline pushed him past his kryptonite pain to dive across her just in time and then with Jimmy's help they took down the bad guy.
Chloe: This poor girl is about to have a nervous breakdown. Yes, she is definitely in over her head. I don't really see her at this point doing anything but protecting Clark. Allison Mack put in an amazing performance! She seemed haunted and on the verge of tears almost the entire time. Clark was amazing in the last scene for them. He knows something is wrong but he didn't push. He just let her know he was there for her and tried to open the doors of communication.
Jimmy: Jimmy appeared weary and unfocused in this episode. I guess drug addiction will do that to you. I felt sorry for him and really enjoyed the few moments we had of him as the old Jimmy. I did enjoy his interaction with Lois when he was taking pictures. I have one question though. How much counterfeit money did he take?
Bruno: What an amazing villain. He was smart, dangerous, and seasoned. He was unusual for Smallville who usually has villains who are fairly easy to conquer. In this case, he was right in there with Lex Luthor and Morgan Edge. I hope we see more of him. I would like to see some more showdowns with him and Clark.
Nods to Mythology: This episode was rich with Superman lore. I thought the delivery of Lois' line to Jimmy about putting an "S" on the chest of her costume was brilliant. Lois' comment to the Red Blue Blur was great when she asked him 'can you read my mind?' Not to mention encouraging Lois to name him something other than the Red-Blue-Blur, giving her the exclusive, and calling her Miss Lane! I'm sure there are others that I missed, but it was great to see these.
Phone Booth Scene: I doubted whether this could be romantic, but it even made my husband tear up with the sweetness of it. What an amazing scene! Lois' vulnerability was revealed and Clark saw it wide open. She is worried about him as a superhero and wants to be there for him. She doesn't want his powers or his lime light; she just wants to be his friend. How can Clark resist such an offer?
Blur-etto: Nice shout out to the fans. I had to laugh at that little bit of matchmaking the fans were doing. Sound familiar?
The Bad
Kryptonite laced money: Although they explained this rather well, that meteor rock makes the ink appear metallic just like real money, it was still a plot device. I'm a little tired of meteor rock enhancing everything. It is almost its own character in the show. Mmmm, I wonder what would happen if the added kryptonite to, say, Viagra?
Lois' Costume Creation: I didn't know Lois was Suzy Homemaker and could whip up a patent leather costume in a matter of hours. Do you know how hard it is to sew that stuff? I do. And the needles you break while trying to. I would think it would take a whole lot longer to make that costume.
Jimmy's Drug Addiction: I don't like this turn of events for Jimmy. I think it is a little out of character for him to sink so fast into doing this. He purposely took too many of a prescription drug he had been warned about. After being accused of taking drugs, I'm not sure he would have done that. However, I could be wrong. Maybe he was driven to forget. But, I still don't like it.
Mention of Lana: Lana was mentioned I assume in an attempt to let us know Clark isn't dwelling on her, but the way it was put out there is like he made the choice not to be with Lana even though she shared his powers. Do they not watch their own show? If I remember correctly, Clark wasn't given a choice to not be with Lana, therefore, there wasn't in closure. Mmmm, it was like Power and Requiem didn't happen. I'm all for that, but it just didn't make sense to me in the whole scheme of things. I give 'Stiletto 4 out of 5 stars. Please join in the discussion of "Stiletto" by clicking HERE
