Escape depicted the need for escaping for romance from the daily grind. The contrast between Clark and Lois' relationship to that of Chloe and Oliver, as well as Zod and Tess, was a sharp contrast. In the midst of all the romance, a renegade ghost has been let loose due to Lois' clumsiness. Answers to several questions were revealed as well.

Tom's Performance: Tom Welling's performance was spot on! He was absolutely adorable and masculine in this episode. It was nice to see Clark so gently aggressive toward Lois. Tom portrayed Clark as gallant, romantic, playful, sexy, and protective. And yes, we even got a little taste of a singing Clark and his totally hot physique. Yum!

The Good

Clark: The opening scene of the episode was a very nice touch. Even though Clark was 'escaping' with Lois for the weekend, he still felt the need to 'clean up' before going. He is also so cognizant of his duties to Metropolis that he commandeered Martian Manhunter to keep watch on things while he was away. Clark was the only one not in peril in the episode. He saved the day as only Superman does.

Clark's manly reaction to Lois' Scottish costume was such a nice surprise. His 'Lois!' shouted 'Yes, baby!' His quick smile was heart-stopping gorgeous. Clark's aggressively sweet pursuit of Lois was so well done he was captivating, but yet he still held onto just the right amount of innocence that is Superman throughout the episode.

Clark and Lois: The loving looks Clark bestowed on Lois were sweet and hot. The angst free relationship between these two even when Chloe shows up in the shower with Clark shows how iconic this romance is. Clark is happy without any doubts in his feelings for Lois or hers for him.

I loved the fact Lois is uncomfortable with keeping secrets from Clark especially when 'The Blur' demands it in the final scene. It will be interesting to see how this plays out with Zod impersonating The Blur. A nice nod to Superman was Clark's 'I'll have to get used to sharing you with the world' to Lois.

Clark and Chloe: The shower scene was the highlight in the episode. Clark is literally left holding the 'soap'! The comedy and towel antics were so well done it was like a choreographed dance. In the conversation between Clark and Chloe after the shower scene, the question was answered of whether or not Clark can have sex with Lois with having to worry about hurting her.

We find out Clark is still training with Jor-El. We also got a glimpse in this scene of the old Clark and Chloe friendship. In the other scenes, Chloe is short and distant with both Clark and Lois. Is this a picture of things to come?

Clark and Oliver: It is obvious these two only have the connection of saving people. Their conversation at brunch is indicative of the uncomfortable status of their relationship. The past choices Oliver has made against Clark makes for the uneasiness between them, not Chloe.

The Blur and Zod: Zod's jealousy of Clark is a nice opening into future issues. Zod's feeling toward Clark throughout the season hasn't been as straight forward until now. It is interesting that Zod doesn't know about kryptonite's affect on him. Since he is a clone and wouldn't have had that knowledge prior to coming forth from the orb it really bugs him Tess knows something about him he doesn't know. It would also give him a way to bring Clark down, if he can get the information from Tess.

Tess and Zod: Tess is now on the scary side of psychotic. The reason she gives for meeting at the loft is 'the one person who unites us.' This relationship is all about power. The one who is left standing in this relationship is the victor. What exactly is Tess playing out and does she have the winning hand?

Chloe and Oliver: Chloe and Oliver are playing on their connection to each other based on the darkness they sometimes succumb to. Oliver seems uncomfortable with Chloe's cold view of their association though. This is a relationship that is doomed to fail. But for the time being, it makes sense.

Reveal of Oliver and Chloe's relationship: The reveal of Oliver and Chloe's relationship to Lois and Clark was very well done. It flowed nicely with the story and seemed natural in the course of the storyline.

The Bad

Not enough Clark: Yes, Clark did save the day in this one, but his absence was felt. The scene with Oliver and Chloe could have been deleted or shortened in favor of more face time with Clark.

Zod and Tess: The loft? The fact that Zod and Tess met in the loft took me right out of the scene. I think it would have been more effective for the two of them to meet anywhere else but there.

Ghost Plot: I was not too impressed with the ghost story. It did allow for some interesting scenes, but in itself, it was mediocre at best. It seemed designed specifically to keep Clark and Lois from sleeping together by orchestrating interruptions.

I give 'Escape' 3.5 out of 5 stars.
